President Bola Tinubu has officially approved the appointment of a new chairman and 12 distinguished members of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) in a move aimed at strengthening legislative administration in Nigeria.

The announcement was made in an official statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy. The statement outlined the details of the new appointments and the qualifications of the individuals selected for these key positions.

According to the statement, Dr. Saviour Enyiekere has been appointed as the Chairman of the NASC for a renewable five-year term. Before this appointment, Dr. Enyiekere, who is an environmental specialist, previously held the position of Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, bringing a wealth of experience to his new role.

In addition to appointing a new chairman, President Tinubu has also approved the selection of two members from each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, resulting in a total of 12 appointed members who will contribute to the leadership and administration of the National Assembly Service Commission.

The complete list of the appointed members is as follows:

North West: Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi and Hon. Yusuf A. Yusuf Tabuka

North East: Aminu Ibrahim Malle and Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud

North Central: Mark Hanmation Tersoo and Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun

South West: Hon. Taiwo Olukemi Oluga and Hon. Afeez Ipeza-Balogun

South East: Hon. Nnanna Uzor Kalu and Festus Ifesinachi Odii

South South: Patrick Giwa and Mrs. Mary Ekpenyong

The statement further emphasised that each appointed member, like the chairman, will serve for a renewable term of five years, ensuring continuity and stability in the commission’s operations.

The appointments are expected to strengthen the NASC’s ability to support the National Assembly effectively, enhance its administrative framework, and ensure that legislative processes run smoothly under the current administration.
